Why Independence?

My aim is to help you make better decisions with your money and do so in a way that reflects your values and purpose. Part of ensuring this is being set-up correctly as an independent planner. Independence in the world of financial planning is a term only allowed by those who do not have any any payments or relationships that could influence advice. In short:

  • I don’t receive commissions or other conflicted incentives so you can be confident my advice is for you alone.
  • I have no ties any financial product (e.g. a super fund, managed fund) so I  am free to consider the best options available for you.
  • My only focus is on you and your situation so I can look at your complete picture and provide advice genuinely for you instead of having “advice” be to push a pre-determined outcome based on hidden incentives.

Who I help

I am here for anyone who needs a trusted financial expert in their corner. My passion is to help solve the challenges faced by you which means all my advice is highly personalised in nature. Although, I believe I can help anyone, the people I help the most are:

  • People who want to feel control and certainty.
  • People who want to feel more confident that their financial plan is right for them.
  • People who haven’t found what they were looking for with a conflicted adviser but still need support.
  • People who don’t have time to look after their finances and need a trusted expert to help.

Who am I?

I’m John Hicks and I began my financial planning career in 2007 after moving to Australia from London. In that time, I learned a lot working to serve clients as a Financial Adviser for both large practices and smaller boutiques offering bespoke services.

With that experience, an Honours degree in Economics and ongoing post-graduate studies, I am using independence as the foundation where the only interest is being in our client’s best interest.

At John Hicks Independent Financial Advice, we identify what is most important to each of our clients to deliver advice and guidance that not only optimises their financial position but also delivers clients the freedom to focus on the things that bring true meaning and purpose in their lives.

“John appeared at just the right moment. I was about to sell a long-held investment property and I needed advice on dividing up the proceeds to provide me with ongoing retirement income; managing the CGT liability as cost effectively as possible; and estate planning as my next of kin live permanently overseas. John’s knowledge and expertise is exceptional and he has worked through all the various complexities that have cropped up with such kindness and efficiency. He is also a great listener. It is a pleasure to work with him and I can’t recommend him highly enough.”

John was extremely helpful with my request to clear our debt. John explains things clearly. Through Johns knowledge & experience I feel very confident that the advice given was right for my needs. He called back every time I leave a message and quickly resolves any issues which arise. In early 2020 John helped again with advice on my transition to retirement. Many Thanks to John.
